Techniques Involved In Roof Construction

Roofing is an extremely delicate process that requires careful planning and decision making. It is a wise decision to contract a roofer to work on your roof because roofing is a dangerous task and it requires a lot of unique tools and techniques.

If you are a do-it-yourself person then you should probably get a hint of the things that you will get involved with before you undertake this job. We are going to in brief discuss the roofing technique in three steps:

Sheathing

This is the most integral part of the roofing process and it involves building a protective layer that will act as the foundation of the roof structure.

Wood boards and plywood are the most commonly found materials in this step so that they can serve as a protective layer for building a waterproof exterior. You should probably put a lot of time and resources in this step to prevent future repairs expenses.

Underlayment

This layer is used for protection purposes. It involves using a builders felt or a paper soaked in asphalt to cover the sheathing layer. This prevents rain water or any kind of wetness from reaching the wood board below it thus preventing rooting and enriches the life of these boards. Care should also be undertaken in this step to avoid extensive upcoming repairs due to wood rot.

Flashing

This process is a roofing procedure that involves making sure that all the edges are well flashed to make sure that no liquid can enter through the holes in the edges. Make sure that all the valleys, rakes and eaves are well flashed with the edge of the roof.

Outer covering

This is the ultimate step in the roofing process and you can use any material that you prefer for you roofing. You can use asphalt shingles, clay tiles, wood shakes or any roofing material that you deem fit. Laying down the outer covering is not as complicated as the other roofing steps but you should have the technical experience and enough assistance as you cannot manage by yourself.

Remember that you are going to bear a risk if you decide to the roofing yourself. Should you have any difficulty, dont shy away but ask a professional roofer to help. He has years of experience and skills to maneuver any difficulty.
